Tip of the day: People often ask how to clean brushes that are stiff or have dried paint in them, making them unusable. Here’s how I do it. (I know, I know, you’re not supposed to put water on them, but this works!) see the steps in the photo captions. This can be done with any size brush and Awesome will remove paint from clothes and this even works to remove acrylic paint from brushes.
Here’s step by step what I do to clean brushes.
- These brushes have dried paint and medium residue in them causing them to be stiff.
- Aswesome is a household cleaning product I find at dollar stores. Put enough in a cup to cover the brush, let soak for a few minutes to 24 hours depending on how dirty the brush is.
- Wipe and squeeze out as much water as possible
- Rinse the soap out with warm water
- Shape brushes and then wrap snugly in paper towels and let dry.
- The brushes are clean, dry and retain their shape.
